About
the Orchestra
The RTWSO was founded in 1922 when a group of 21 amateur string
players, supported by a flautist and a pianist, gave a concert in King
Charles Hall, Royal Tunbridge Wells. The orchestra is now a full
symphony orchestra that has established a regular pattern of six
concerts each season.
Today, the RTWSO is made up from a core group of gifted, local
musicians, whose ranks are augmented by a larger number of professional
musicians. They perform to a high standard and offer continuity for our
audiences, as many of the players have been performing with the RTWSO
for some years.
Time and time again, the RTWSO turns in memorable performances
completely worthy of other leading orchestras. We promote a
fascinating series of concerts to enjoy, exploring familiar and some
less familiar orchestral works in a dazzling mix of programmes.
